Cape Coral, FL, April 30, 2008 -The Cape Coral Eye Center announced today that Dr. Farrell C. Tyson, Medical Director of the Center, has been working with the research and development team of Alcon, Inc. on the design of a new blade for the Alcon INFINITI® Vision System; the newest Micro Coaxial Cataract Removal System being used in Southwest Florida. Alcon, Inc. is the world’s leading eye care company, with sales of approximately $5.6 billion in 2007, and researches, develops, manufactures and markets pharmaceuticals, surgical equipment and devices.

Dr. Tyson has designed the new diamond blade for the INFINITI® Vision System to replace the steel blades currently being used. The primary advantage of the new Tyson II Micro Co-Axial Blade is that it is smaller allowing the surgeon to perform surgery safely and efficiently through a single small incision which allows the patient to heal faster. The new blades are now being manufactured by Accutome and will immediately be available for marketing and distribution worldwide. Dr. Tyson will also participate in the production of training videos used to demonstrate the use of the new diamond blade knife.

“We are very pleased that Alcon, a leading global eye care company, has selected Dr. Tyson to design the new Tyson II Micro Co-Axial Blade for the INFINITI® Vision System and is using Cape Coral as a strategic base to address the fast growing markets in this region. Alcon’s investment in this new blade bears testimony to Alcon’s excellent track record in research and development,” said Dr. Benjamin Martin, Founder of the Cape Coral Eye Center.
