Tyson Eye Now Offering Durysta™ for Glaucoma Patients

If you suffer from open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (high eye pressure), you know it’s important to reduce the pressure in your eyes to protect against vision loss. Typically, that involves a regime of prescribed eye drops, but unfortunately, some glaucoma patients don’t  like the inconvenience of taking eye drops as prescribed, often due to unpleasant side effects (such as dry eye) or simply because they forget to take them.

That’s why we’re excited to offer Durysta, the first and only FDA-approved dissolvable implant that has been shown in clinical studies to reduce or eliminate the need for medicated eye drops for 15 weeks.

This is a game-changing, slow-release treatment for glaucoma patients. The tiny implant, which is smaller than the “I” in “LIBERTY” on a dime, is administered by our expert ophthalmologists in a quick procedure, and then slowly dissolves over time, continuously releasing medication for 3 months or more.

Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness and visual impairment in the US. When you have glaucoma or ocular hypertension, fluid builds up inside your eye causing pressure. As the pressure increases, it can damage the optic nerve, which connects your eye to your brain. Over time, this damage can become severe enough to lead to vision loss.

With Durysta, you can decrease the pressure inside your eye, without having to remember to take your drops as often (or possibly at all). You also may not have to deal with all the side effects that accompany prescription eye drops.

In fact, while some people have reported side effects with Durysta (the most common of which was eye redness), during the clinical trials, patients using Durysta reported fewer side effects than the control group who were using prescribed eye drops. See Durysta’s full prescribing information for a complete list of side effects and safety information.

While this innovative new treatment is intended to treat people with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension, it may not be right for everyone with those conditions. Talk to your doctor to see if Durysta is right for you.
