What You Need to Know About the Light Adjustable Lens

If you’re a candidate for cataract surgery, we have good news. You may also be a candidate for an advanced interocular lens (IOLs) which can not only replace your natural lens that was damaged by the cataract, but is designed to correct your vision – often reducing the need for prescription glasses or contacts. Tyson Eye has experienced and trusted eye surgeons who are experts in this revolutionary technology.

What is the Light Adjustable Lens?

The Light Adjustable Lens is the latest innovation in advanced IOLs. This breakthrough treatment is the first and only IOL that is implanted during cataract surgery, and then adjusted specifically to meet your vision requirements after surgery.

Light adjustable lenses are made of photosensitive materials that are adjusted by simply exposing them to UV light, to create a custom prescription just for you.

Once you have healed from surgery, you and your doctor will work together to determine your prescription. Then, you can expect 2- 5 fast and painless light treatments, each lasting approximately 90 seconds, over the span of about 4- 5 weeks to create the most precise lens on the market.

Note that since the lens can be adjusted by light exposure, you will be provided with UV protective glasses to wear both indoors and out during the duration of the treatment.

Are You a Candidate for Advanced IOLs?

There are several factors that determine if you are a good candidate for advanced IOLs, but generally speaking, if you qualify for cataract surgery, you most likely will also qualify for advanced IOLs.

To be a candidate, you must be experiencing some vision problems, diagnosed with cataracts, and told you need surgery. Whether you want to be able to see better during distance activities, such as driving, playing golf or watching a movie, or you need help close-up to read or work on a computer, the Light Adjusting Lens can be customized to your needs.

If you’ve had previous eye surgeries or procedures, or suffer from macular degeneration, you’ll need to talk to a doctor to make sure advanced IOLs are right for you.
