Light to moderate corneal abrasions heal fairly quickly, sometimes overnight. Larger abrasions can take up to one week to heal. Since the cornea has many nerve endings, these abrasions can be very painful.
Your ophthalmologist will carefully examine your eyes to determine the extent of the injury and to see if any debris was left in the eye.
Your doctor may apply a patch to cover that eye. Your doctor may also prescribe antibiotic eye drops to keep the cornea from becoming infected.
