Provider Checklist

The decision to have laser or surgical vision correction is an important one that you should make carefully, not quickly. Choose a practice that focuses on safety, diagnostic technology, post-operative follow-up. Obviously, the experience of the surgeon is extremely important as well. We hope you will choose Tyson Eye as your provider, but if you’re shopping around, use this checklist to compare.

  • Does the surgeon use FDA approved custom lasers, such as LADARVision? CUSTOMCORNEA? YES / NO
  • Does the center use wavefront analysis to take measurements of the eye pre-operatively (before your surgery)? YES / NO
  • Does the center have access to multiple lasers and non-laser technologies to allow the surgeon to choose the best treatment method for each patient? YES / NO
  • Does the center measure the size of the patient’s pupil in order to ensure the appropriate treatment zone is used to avoid post–operative (after your surgery) side effects? YES / NO
  • Does the practice test for dry eyes before the procedure and offer a treatment plan to improve the dry eye symptoms (necessary to promote healing after surgery)? YES / NO
  • Does the surgeon use powder-less gloves? (Many doctors do not wear gloves to save money) YES / NO
  • Does the center take time to explain complex issues such for presbyopia and cataract surgery, and how they will affect your vision after age 40? YES / NO
  • Does the center take time to explain monovision as an option to presbyopia, as well as providing trial contact lenses that simulate monovision? YES / NO
  • Does the center charge extra for astigmatism and/or stronger prescriptions? YES / NO
  • Does the center use a stationary laser that is kept in a temperature controlled environment, or do they use a mobile rental laser unit (a.k.a “roll-on roll-off” units)? YES / NO
  • Does the center offer a comprehensive evaluation to determine your options while focusing on your lifestyle needs as well as the health of your eyes? YES / NO
  • Will you meet with the surgeon at the preliminary evaluation (before your surgery)? YES / NO
  • Will you see your SURGEON for all of your post-operative visits (after your surgery)? YES / NO
